Week of July 27, Cycling

Distance: 6.72 miles - Time: 30:34 - Avg Pace: 13.2 mph - Max Pace: 21.4 mph

Good ride today. It was only about 72° out, so that helped, and the route I took was less hilly, so that helped as well. I felt like my effort was less than last week, yet I managed to go slightly faster. Perhaps I'm in better shape as well. The only problem I see now is that biking is definitely fun compared to running (or at least you can feel like you're going fast without too much effort). We'll see how the four-miler feels tomorrow.

Week of July 27, Run 3

Run: 3.0 miles - Pace: 10:17/mi - Week: 8.0 miles - Year: 43.0 miles - Total: 804.56 miles

Ran too fast yesterday and paid for it today. Calves hurt the most. I did manage to get faster on each mile, but none were faster than 10:00/mi. I will take advantage of the rest day tomorrow and not push those Tues runs quite so fast in the future.

Week of July 27, Run 2

Run: 2.0 miles - Pace: 8:34/mi - Week: 5.0 miles - Year: 40.0 miles - Total: 801.56 miles

I think I might have to classify this as speedwork given how quickly I ran. I set my garmin pacer to 9:20, but after finishing the first mile in 8:56, I decided to keep going. I kept my breathing at a steady rate and was a bit slower than really pushing myself. Hopefully this wasn't too fast.

Week of July 27, Run 1

Run: 3.0 miles - Pace: 9:54/mi - Week: 3.0 miles - Year: 38.0 miles - Total: 799.56 miles

Actually turned out to be a pretty good run today. The first mile didn't go so well, with my calves feeling out of whack, but as I settled into the next two miles, things went much better. Splits were 10:27, 9:47, and 9:28. As long as I can keep up this negative split stuff, I'm in business.

Week of July 20, Run 4

Run: 3.5 miles - Pace: 9:56/mi - Week: 10.0 miles - Year: 35.0 miles - Total: 796.56 miles

Not a bad run, but this weather is hot. It actually felt good to be running after yesterday's bike ride.

Week of July 20, Bike Ride

Distance: 6.59 mi - Time: 30:30 - Avg Pace: 13.0 mph - Max Speed: 25.9 mph

First bike ride in I don't know how long. Not easy at all, and in fact quite hilly. The portion of my quads that is right above the knee felt it the most. We'll see how tomorrow's run goes.

Week of July 20, Run 3

Run: 2.5 miles - Pace: 10:17/mi - Week: 6.5 miles - Year: 31.5 miles - Total: 793.06 miles

I started the 2.5 run just this week (I didn't have a route previously), so when I started on this route I didn't think to double-check it and ended up starting the 3.5 mile loop. Thankfully, I only ended up going 2 blocks out of my way after I made an adjustment, so it worked out in the end. Just a nice slow run today. Didn't want to push anything. The cooler weather I've enjoyed lately seems to be waning, and the sun was out in full force for this late morning run, so it was a little slower than recently. Did the Wii Fit training afterward, which felt great, much to my surprise. Thankfully, tomorrow is a scheduled rest day!

Week of July 20, Run 2

Run: 2.0 miles - Pace: 10:05/mi - Week: 4.5 miles - Year: 29.0 miles - Total: 790.56 miles

Actually managed to take it easy for this run. Back to back runs will take some getting used to, and this back-to-back-to-back schedule will be completely new for me. Wish me luck tomorrow.

Week of July 20

Run: 2.5 miles - Pace: 9:25/mi - Week: 2.5 miles - Year: 27.0 miles - Total: 788.56 miles

Good run today. Splits were 9:59, 9:11, and 4:23. Probably a little on the fast side (for me), but not too bad. With the training program, I'll be doing MTuWSa, with cross training on Friday. Hopefully I won't feel worn out by Wed.

Week of July 13

Run: 3.5 miles - Pace: 9:46/mi - Week: 9.5 miles - Year: 24.5 miles - Total: 786.06 miles

Not a bad run today. Added a half mile for kicks. First two miles felt good and the last 1.5 miles less so. This marks 2 weeks down. 13 weeks to the KC half, or 18 until the Gobbler Grind. Either would work well depending on how training goes. I think I'm gonna go ahead and try the Higdon Half Marathon Novice training program, with some slight modifications. I know that I can't race without going all out (and thus being pretty unable to train the next week), so I may skip those races and use the opportunity to bump up the long run a bit. We'll see. That means I need to get to 3,2,3,4 = 12 miles by the week of July 27. No biggie. I will need to start adding some cross training, but that should be good for me. Yay biking!

Week of July 13

Run: 2.0 miles - Pace: 9:31/mi - Week: 6.0 miles - Year: 25.0 miles - Total: 786.56 miles

Actually ended up faster than yesterday, though I didn't intend it. I just wanted to do an easy jog, but it started raining slightly in the second mile. As a result, my splits were 10:12 and 8:51, quite a difference.

Week of July 13

Run: 2.0 miles - Pace: 9:32/mile - Week: 4.0 miles - Year: 23.0 miles - Total: 784.56 miles

This run did not feel as good as Monday. Am going to try to take it easier tomorrow.

Week of July 13

Run: 2.0 miles - Pace: 9:30/mi - Week: 2.0 miles - Year: 21.0 miles - Total: 782.56 miles

Good run today. My left quad felt a bit sore, but overall it felt great to be running a bit better. Splits were 9:54 and 9:06, with a gradual pace increase throughout the run. I'm thinking about doing Mon 2, Wed 2, Thurs 2, and Sat 3 this week, which will give me a starting point as I increase those long runs.

Week of July 6

Run: 3.0 miles - Pace: 9:55/mi - Week: 8.0 miles - Year: 19.0 miles - Total: 780.56 miles

First two miles felt good, but the third not so much. Toe still hurts, though it didn't bother me until later in the run. As a reference, the total distance I've run is a little more than running from here to Houston, TX. :)

Week of July 6

Run: 2.0 miles - Pace: 9:44/mi - Week: 5.0 miles - Year: 16.0 miles - Total: 777.56 miles

These runs are too hard. Everything is going fine, though, save that my left big toe needs to get its callous back.

Week of July 6

Run: 3.0 miles - Pace: 9:52/mi - Week: 3.0 miles - Year: 14.0 miles - Total: 775.69 miles

Well, after getting back from Italy, where I was walking all day long and mostly in the heat, I thought I'd go for a little more on this run. Should have stuck with 2 miles. This was just hard, but I did it, eh? I have 15 weeks until the KC half marathon. Enough time to get ready, though I'm not sure if it's enough time to gear up for a sub-2 hour try. Depending on how things go (and I'm getting back to it, really), I may shoot for the Gobbler Grind in November instead.

Wish me luck!
